Buying Computer LCD Monitors: What You Need To Keep In Mind

LCD monitors today are gradually becoming one of the most favored choices for a range of applications including computer. However, if you are particularly looking at using LCD monitors for your computer, you should be duly acquainted with certain terms that are intrinsically linked to liquid crystal display or LCD screens. But, what are they? Find out below:

One of the most critical aspects to be taken care of, while purchasing an LCD monitor is the screen resolution. Particularly conveyed by two numbers i.e. 2560 and 1440 (often expressed as 2560*1440) the screen resolution actually refers to the number of pixels that are used for the display of images.  Greater resolution obviously denotes sharper or more defined images while lesser resolution indicates just the opposite. The first number thus expressed imply the number of pixels moving horizontally while the second number denotes the number of pixels running vertically. The screen resolution should be considered keeping the screen size in view. In case, there are two differently sized LCD monitors with the same resolution then the smaller screen would ensure better definition as it has more dots per inch or DPI.

Aspect ratio is another factor that should be duly considered. It indicates the difference between the height and the width of the monitor. Aspect ratio, on the other hand, shouldn’t be confused with size as the latter represents nothing but a diagonal measurement of the opposite corners of the screen.

It is equally important to know about panel coating before settling for a prudent choice of the monitor. Nowadays, the monitors specially have two types of coatings namely- “anti-glare” and “glossy”. The glossy coatings are more frequently used for monitors particularly used for business monitors where the hues are ideally muted and are typically designed for bright lighting conditions. Glossy coating, on the other hand, offer brighter displays.

Now, that you are duly acquainted with the basic points to consider while buying an LCD computer screen, you should also  be equally aware of the regular glitches of laptop LCD screens. One of the most recurrent of these issues is flickering screen and there are some simple measures to deal with it.

The flickering screen, mostly, is the result of moving your screen back and forth. Though there is a common tendency among users to ignore this issue, the LCD can soon be affected badly if not attended to without delay.

Make it a point to check out if there is a loose or bad LCD cable visible. The torn cable might be a consequence of poorly manufactured LCD hinges. In a bid to fix the issue you might as well be required to tighten or else replace hinges duly. The cable might also be loose from the connector on the motherboard or it could be loosely connected behind the LCD itself. You can work on this issue by either opening the laptop partially or fully to reach the connector on the board or else by simple unscrewing of the facemask.

The video chip can be affected by intense heat and loosen up as a result as well. The use of a heat gun can be considered to be a good option as well.
