10 things you should have at your Office Desk

Setting up your office desk so it’s the best it can be to help your productivity is really important, so here are 10 things we think no desk is complete without.

  1. A computer/laptop

Ok, and obvious one to start with, but vital equipment like this is obviously a must! If you’re working from home or in a small office, things like a printer, scanner or fax machine is usually a must for your desk too. You can find them at a great price here www.fujixerox.com.au.

  1. A pen and paper

Although everything is online nowadays, you’d be amazed at how many times you’ll ‘just need to jot something down’, especially if you’re on the phone for example and need to note down a number or email address.

  1. A diary or organiser

Having a diary handy is so important so that you can write tasks in as soon as they’re handed to you, so you can get organised and can prioritise your time accordingly and efficiently.

  1. A calendar

Likewise, a calendar is important so that you can not only have a reference on hand of dates and times, but also so you can get organised with things you need to do and when to do them by.

  1. A phone charger

It’s always important to have your mobile charged and ready to go. Therefore keeping a spare phone charger at your desk is a great idea so that you can plug it in and always have it fully charged.

  1. Homely touches

Adding a few homely touches to your office environment can make it a much more pleasant place to sit down and do some work at. Things like framed photos of your loved ones are great, or even things like your mug or coaster from home which will give it a bit more of a homey feel.

  1. A phone

You may also need a work phone handy at your desk. If you work in a large office, it’s a good idea to have a list of everyone else’s extension numbers next to your phone, so that if you take a call for someone else, you can pass it on to them easily and quickly, without having to shout over to ask for their number.

  1. A list of important contact details

It’s important that you have quick and easy access to some important numbers that you need on a regular basis somewhere obvious on your desk. These can be numbers like your boss’s mobile to your client’s contact details. Whatever they are, keep them safe and on a list that you can access easily.

  1. Refreshments

Staying hydrated whilst working is really important for productivity, and of course for your health! Keeping a bottle of water on your desk is a good plan, as is some light snacks to eat throughout the day if you find yourself dragging a bit.

10. Good lighting

Good lighting is essential at a desk so you’re not straining your eyes at all when working at your computer. Invest in a good desk lamp if you feel your overhead lighting isn’t sufficient enough for your needs.
