Everything a True Geek’s Den Needs to Feature

If you’re thinking about creating a geek den for yourself, there are a few essentials you’ll need to consider – here they are!

Comfortable Seating Arrangements

No matter what you intend to use your geek den for, one thing you’ll definitely need are great seats. If you plan to watch a lot of movies and play games down there, this is even more important. Beanbags can be a good idea if you want a cheaper option, or buy some big cinema style seats to relax in.

If you’re a gamer, you’ll surely agree with me that games are best when they’re played with a big group of friends. So, make sure you cater for everyone and have enough seats for all your friends when you have a big gaming marathon with them.

Choose a Focal Point

Every geek den needs a single item or element that acts as the focal point for the entire room. It doesn’t matter what it is, just make sure your geek den has one! Some people will make their home cinema system the focal point, but what you choose is entirely up to you.

You could turn your den into a games room, and include both video games and other types of games too. Why not buy yourself a full-size snooker or pool table and place it in the centre of the room? If you have the room to accommodate one, you should definitely think about it.

The Right TV and Consoles

Let’s face it, no geek den can be complete without a top quality TV in place. Get a top of the range one, it might be expensive, but you get what you pay for when it comes to TVs. Curved TVs are all the rage at the moment, and can be especially good for gamers as it maximises your vision of every pixel.

Before you install your TV, make sure you have a TV aerial and the right amount of space in your den. The size of TV you pick should dependent on how pick the room is and how far away from it you will be sitting. Then, install your chosen games console, and you can get gaming.

An Individual Design

The design of your den needs to be specific to you. Don’t go for a boring, generic design because you’ll regret it later. Pick out posters or wall art that are in line with your own interests and obsessions! It can be a good idea to pick an overall design for the room too, it’ll bring it all together and look great.

I had a friend who turned his basement into a movie-themed den where he could go to get away from it all and watch movies to his heart’s content. It looked so great because the walls were painted with his favourite movie stars and icons. This is the kind of thing you can do to complete your geek den!

If you put these tips into action, your geek den will be looking great in no time.
